Back Our Biofuels
Apr 15 2008 nebusiness.co.uk
Today we call on Westminster to Back Our Biofuels.
Worth a projected £1bn to the North-east by 2010, the industry’s green shoots have sprouted on Teesside. But without political support, the sun could set on our newest sector before it’s allowed to shine.
Their market flooded by thousands of litres of heavily subsidised US biodiesel, hammered unfairly by reports of deforestation and blamed for rising world food prices, Teesside’s biofuels producers could be lost to foreign shores.
The industry needs a champion and it’s in the British government and Europe’s hands to act.
Will you support it?
The Back Our Biofuels campaign calls on the UK government to:
:: Increase political pressure on America to stop subsidising biodiesel under the so-call ‘splash and dash’ regime.
:: Restore the 20p/litre tax break for all biofuels producers beyond 2010.
:: Invest in more publically funded R&D to create a world class industry.
