Let's show the world what we're made of

Today sees the launch of our Go Global campaign in association with North East Chamber of Commerce which aims to encourage businesses to export more of their goods and services. Andrew Mernin finds out why international trade could be the key to our economic recovery.

Toffs continues to score overseas

WHEN the World Cup kicks off next summer, football fans all over Europe – and those lucky enough to have tickets in South Africa – could inadvertently be doing their bit to boost North East exports.

For Gateshead’s retail empire Toffs continues to supply its retro football shirts across Europe and North America and its merchandise is worn by fans across the globe.

The company recently made its first large shipment to Canada while it also has partners in Italy and France and has been in negotiations to break into the Gulf market.

Last year it showed how breaking language barriers can play a major role in the success of an overseas expansion strategy.

The company’s Italian-speaking member of staff, Veronica Baldini, negotiated a deal to supply replica football shirts to Italian club Juventus.
