Weardale Coeliac’s Choice is delicious

FOLLOWING the great success of their gluten- free bakery range, the Weardale Organic Soup Company has changed its name.
“It’s to let people know we are about much more than nutritious and delicious soups,” explained co-owner Christine Peart.
The new name, Weardale Coeliac’s Choice Ltd, is an umbrella for the full product range which includes apple pie, cakes, quiches, scones and the award winning smoked salmon tart, which struck gold in this year’s Taste Awards.
It’s home made with Northumbrian smoked salmon, creme fraiche and local free range eggs from Jollyboddy Farm in Weardale.
Added Christine: “All our food is free from artificial additives and made with wholesome ingredients. Whenever possible, we are working hard to source all of our ingredients from our doorstep for our local soup range and bakery products.”
Recently the company had a visit from celebrity chef Brian Turner, who on tasting the gluten free muffins, declared: “I think they should be called fairy cakes because they’re magic.”
Brian was visiting with the production team from UKTV Food to film for the regional finals of the UKTV Food Heroes Awards.
Christine was also delighted to meet the hairy bikers, Simon and Dave, at The Journal’s Taste 2 event held at Linden Hall in Northumberland.
The boys are huge supporters of local food and the event was a great success.
Christine said: “If you’re in Newcastle and would like to try the soup range, call in at Olive and Bean on Clayton Street for a comforting bowl at lunch time. It’s a lovely deli, packed with local goodies. We recommend this one.
“If you’re venturing out into the countryside try Pebbles Art Cafe in Allendale. They stock our full range. Try our quiche hot with side salad or a large gluten- free chocolate muffin with your coffee. This place is a hidden gem.”
