Search is on for top teams

THE deadline to enter the Landmark Awards 2008 is fast approaching now, with the region’s top property professionals having just under a month left to enter the various categories.

We are looking for the best new buildings in the North East and to recognise the skilled teams who designed and developed them.

The competition is sure to be fierce again, in this fifth year of the awards, which we present in association with law firm Watson Burton LLP, with additional sponsorship from Allied Irish Bank.

For each category there will be one winner, with the architect, developer and contractor for the winning project each receiving an award.

The winners will be presented with their prizes at a prestigious black tie dinner and awards ceremony held at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel at Gosforth Park, on Thursday, October 16.

Last year’s event attracted more than 300 members of the region’s property sector, and was hosted by BBC presenter Wendy Gibson.

This year’s event has been kindly sponsored by regional development agency One NorthEast. Rob Langley, Watson Burton senior partner, said: “The great thing about the Landmark awards is that each year so many buildings and schemes could easily be worthy of the overall Landmark of the Year title.

“The quality and choice is as broad now, in its fifth year, as it was in its first.

“We are privileged to have so many excellent designer, developer and contractor teams working in our region.”

The Journal Landmark Awards aim to spotlight those initiatives/developments, which represent the very best in concept, design and construction. Submissions will have enhanced the region and the lives of those within the North East.

These awards will be independently judged by an experienced panel of judges. The award categories are retail/leisure; office development; environmental; public sector; residential development; and the Judges’ Gem for smaller schemes which cost less than £2.5m to develop.

The awards are open to companies building within the circulation area of The Journal/Evening Gazette. All projects entered into the scheme will have been completed between the 13th August 2007 and 13th August 2008.
