Just hours left to finish buildings to hit deadline

THE people behind the best new buildings in the North East must have their projects complete by close of business tonight correct to qualify to enter the Landmark Awards 2008.

Our competition to recognise the best talent in the development industry, presented in association with Watson Burton law firm, is now cranking up to deadline day and today is the cut-off for projects to be complete to qualify for competition.

Now you have just nine days left to finish off your entry form and get it to us by Friday, August 22, to join the submissions already received.

Meanwhile, to complete our preparations for the judging process, this week we have welcomed an additional member of our experienced and knowledgeable panel.

Mike Foggon of Faithful & Gould is a very experienced operator in the property world, having enjoyed a long and successful career, including a six-year stint with his current employer.

Foggon is regional director with Faithful & Gould and a qualified quantity surveyor, as well as a member of Rics and also of the Institution of Arbitrators.

His firm’s North East office is a substantial fixture on the regional property scene, and is currently working on projects including the massive Stephenson Quarter mixed-use development in central Newcastle and a new eco-office for Derwentside Homes. The firm, with 40 staff in the region, was also recently involved in the
redevelopment of the Live Theatre building on Broad Chare off the Quayside.

The Landmark Awards this year promise to be just as hotly contested as previous years, with the categories being: retail/leisure; office development; environmental; public sector; residential development; and the Judges’ Gem for smaller schemes which cost less than £2.5m to develop. As ever, for each winning project there will be prizes awarded to the architect, developer and contractor responsible for its completion.

The winners will be presented with their prizes at a prestigious black-tie dinner and awards ceremony at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel at Gosforth Park, on Thursday, October 16.

These awards will be independently judged by an experienced panel of judges.

The awards are open to projects built within the circulation area of The Journal and Evening Gazette. All projects entered must have been completed between August 13 last year and today.

Entry forms can also be obtained through our website www.nebusiness.co.uk/landmarkawards or from Kirsty Tarn, Regional Events, The Journal, Groat Market, Newcastle, NE1 1ED, tel: (0191) 201-6072.
