JT Roofing and Building Maintenance has had its best-ever year

At the close of 2008, JT also appointed Mr Murray, 48, as its commercial director, who has brought with him a career in surveying and pricing expertise, which has helped sales to increase significantly.

Mr Murray said: “To be honest, it has been our smaller size that has helped us to keep our head above water. Although we have tons of experience in the roofing trade, the firm was launched from a low base.

“This has allowed us to grow in a market which has seen many of our competitors cut jobs.

“In this competitive market, we make sure that our team always has the training they need to develop in line with new technologies.

“We currently have two apprentices working for us who are undertaking Construction Industry Training Board qualifications.

“The apprentice training scheme is an exciting opportunity both for them and for the company and it’s fantastic to see them grow in confidence.”

Coun Michael Clare, lead member for jobs, enterprise and regeneration for South Tyneside Council, said: “We are excited to watch a company in the borough thriving because of its reputation and quality of workforce.

“We are very much looking forward to being a part of their success and wish them all the best for the future.”
