City housing development is given go-ahead

DEVELOPERS have been given the green light for a large house development in Newcastle.

Newcastle City Council’s Planning Committee has approved a detailed planning application submitted jointly by Muse Developments and leading housing developer Taylor Wimpey, for a new 55-unit housing scheme covering four acres located on Benton Road in Longbenton, Newcastle.

Councillors unanimously approved the plans, comprising three and four-bedroom homes and two bedroomed bungalows with associated car parking and pedestrian and vehicle access. Muse has now sold the site to Taylor Wimpey, who will take the scheme forward. Muse senior development surveyor Simon Dew commented: “This scheme will provide Longbenton with much-needed high-quality housing delivered by one of the largest housebuilders in the UK.

“Taylor Wimpey’s ideas for the scheme were by far the best presented to Muse, and we look forward to seeing construction commencing on site later this year.” John Driver, land & planning director for Taylor Wimpey North East, said: “The application was approved at the first time of asking thanks to the feedback received from ward councillors and local residents at a consultation event held before the application was submitted.

“This helped shape our plans for much-needed family housing and bungalows for the elderly.”
