Site kept tidy as the waste is spirited away

BELLWAY Homes and JBT Waste Services are working together to pioneer a super-efficient waste recycling on-site scheme that is helping the housebuilder beat stringent government construction waste targets.
JBT suggested the introduction of a dedicated recycling site at client Bellway Homes’ Ochre Yards scheme in Gateshead to tackle the huge range of materials that construction activities generate.
JBT has worked with Bellway to segregate materials at source by introducing separate skips for timber, plastics, glass, inert materials such as concrete and soil, and packaging waste on a well-defined part of the building site. JBT Waste Services regularly picks up and takes away the skips to its recycling plant in Bedlington, Northumberland.
As a result none of the waste goes to landfill, reducing costs for Bellway, increasing site efficiency and promoting excellent safety standards.
Bellway is delighted at the instant impact of the on-site recycling scheme. It is now considering rolling out the scheme to its larger developments throughout the country.
Bellway’s Ochre Yards site manager Darren Hannar said: “Because the skips are here we do not allow any waste to build up on site. All waste, from rubble to plastic sheeting is immediately taken to the recycling area, keeping the site much safer and tidier.”
John Binks, managing director of JBT Waste Services said: “Bellway’s enthusiasm for an on-site scheme was converted into a working project very quickly. I’m delighted that it’s already producing excellent results.”
