HI everyone,

I’m Greg Brina and I work for the Environment Agency as the national campaign manager for World Environment Day. I’m based at our head office in Bristol.

World Environment Day is a United Nations initiative that has been running since 1972. Its aim is to get everyone thinking about the environment, both globally and locally, and about what they can do to protect it.

We here at the Environment Agency have been promoting World Environment Day across England and Wales since 2004, and with every year it just gets bigger and better.

From giant inflatable globes and film showings, to thousands of free re-usable bags, we are constantly thinking of new ways to reach you, and get you thinking about your environment.

This year we want you all to “Stand up to Climate Change” and nationally we are working with some very funny folk (comedians) to get the message out to you. Look out for details on our website!

Every year hundreds of events and activities take place across the country, and this year is no exception. Environment Agency staff and our partner organisations will be taking to a street near you to raise awareness of how you can adapt and get ready for climate change.

In recent years I have heard lots about the activities that go on in the North East, and am delighted to hear that they are planned again this year. More information about the events planned in and around Newcastle can be found on this page.

Enjoy this edition of your Go Green supplement, and enjoy World Environment Day on June 5
