FRANK Haslam Milan North East has proved it is one of the leading green companies by choosing JBT Waste Services as its first sole recycling services provider to help achieve its highest recycling results.
Award-winning FHM, which specialises in the refurbishment and construction of public sector housing, has 10 housing development sites from Middlesbrough to Morpeth. Each has to be supervised rigorously to help the company achieve tough waste management targets.
JBT Waste Services is leading the North East in its successful drive to provide the most up-to-date equipment to recycle almost all materials. The Bedlington-based company is winning private and public sector customers throughout the region because of its professional approach and commitment to keep ahead of government targets.
Jason Sheriff, FHM senior buyer said: “Recycling is a key priority for FHM, and we have very high environmental targets to meet.
“ JBT’s high recycling standards and investment in the latest technology and equipment gave it a definite edge over the competition.
“We are facing much tougher environmental laws and need to be able to rely on a guaranteed high quality recycling service throughout the year at each of our sites. JBT is proving to be a good partner in helping us achieve much better recycling results than ever before.”
FHM has played a major role in the region’s transformation, delivering ambitious regeneration, retirement and refurbishment initiatives.
It was recently selected to deliver a £32m Decent Homes programme for Castle Morpeth Housing and a £14m home improvement programme with Blyth Valley Housing. The two four-year programmes will improve 4,300 homes across the boroughs.
FHM, like JBT, is committed to investing in new technologies and methods to protect and enhance the environments in which they work.
As Advocates of the Considerate Constructors Scheme FHM encourages clients and consultants to consider the environmental impact of projects from design to completion. It also ensures sites are clean and tidy within each community it carries out work.
By setting high recycling targets FHM is doing as much as it can to ease the pressure on landfill sites and ensure fewer resources are used in the production of goods. Wherever possible it uses products from sustainable sources, such as timber from sustainable forests as defined by the Forest Stewardship Council.
Within each site, FHM organises regular team meetings to raise awareness of energy issues and to encourage employees and sub-contractors to report areas where resources are wasted and suggest ways to reduce consumption.
Graham Palmer, director of JBT Waste Services, said: “FHM’s high values in the quality of its work and its genuine commitment to sustainability are admirable. We are delighted to work alongside them and help them achieve their ambitious targets, both this year and longer-term, at each of their development sites.
“Because FHM is so committed to protecting the environment it is a fantastic company to work alongside. We provide detailed recycling returns from each site, taking samples from skips to show what products are being recycled and what quantities. In this way,
“FHM knows exactly how diligent each site is being, and how much each product contributes to its overall recycling results. It is great to work with a company which is driving forward the sustainability message throughout its workforce, its sites, the communities within which it works and the region.”
JBT has been operating from Bedlington for almost 40 years. It is the largest independent recycling and waste management business in Northumberland, and achieves a remarkable 85% recycling rate. It aims to recycle 95% of all waste within a year, and is targeting 100%.
