IT isn’t just the changes in buildings, services and technology that makes modern healthcare a better experience for patients.

Changes in attitudes have helped play a huge role in the patient-led environment with Northumbria Healthcare today.

For instance, it used to be that if your child was sick there were strict visiting times which had to be adhered to – in some cases parents were only allowed to visit their child once a week on a Saturday afternoon. Fortunately it’s much more relaxed now and Northumbria Healthcare encourages parents and children to remain together during treatment and has an open door visiting policy.

In the children’s ward at North Tyneside General Hospital each children’s bed has a reclining chair for parents and if your child is in a single room, we can provide a bed for you.

There are bright and welcoming playrooms and the whole environment is geared up to being as friendly as possible for children.
