The trust brought together the strengths of three trusts – North Tyneside, Cheviot and Wansbeck and Northumberland Community. Hexham General Hospital was also included to bring all the county’s healthcare under one umbrella.
We are now one of the largest healthcare employers in the North East, with more than 6,000 staff in 10 hospitals in Northumberland and North Tyneside. With a £270m budget, the trust manages three general hospitals, in North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, and seven community hospitals, in Berwick, Alnwick, Rothbury, Haltwhistle, Blyth, Morpeth and Wallsend.
We achieved foundation status in 2006 to become Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
