Finding work’s a Shaw thing

BUSINESS bosses have welcomed news that national charity Shaw Trust has been given the go-ahead to help thousands more people in Tees Valley to make the break from benefits to work.
Shaw Trust, whose job-broking team has already helped more than 38,000 people find work nationally, has got the go-ahead to continue its programme for another two years.
“We are delighted to be here. We believe everyone has the right to work, and we do everything in our power to make that possible,” said Angela Heenan, who heads up the North-east job-broking team for Shaw Trust, which helps people achieve work and independence.
Shaw Trust is working with partners Morrison Trust to deliver the New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP) programme, managed by Jobcentre Plus, and which provides advice on training, job search, benefits and tax credits for people with disabilities or a health condition.
“Basically Shaw Trust supports people every step of the way on their journey moving from benefits to employment,” added Angela.
“People want to work, employers need their skills and everyone is a winner.”
The North East Chamber of Commerce also added its support on hearing the news.
Chief executive James Ramsbotham said: “We hope employers will engage with the brokering process and use it as an opportunity to recruit staff, access skills to help them fill vacancies and, in so doing, offer equal opportunities for all.”
Shaw Trust has set up a freephone number 0808 1802004 for benefit claimants who want to work, and employers who want to access them.
