Stokesley-based Wall Transform has led a revolution in its sector with Rubbercrete - the world’s most efficient wall insulator made from recycled car tyres.
The breakthrough earned Wall Transform - a 2005 National Business Award winner - a nomination in the Sustainability Housing Awards in November and it recently received inquiries from recyclers in the US.
Managing director Glenn Melvin said: “We believe this product is the world’s most noise-insulating plaster.
“We are using recycled materials, saving energy and the product itself is very efficient.”
Meanwhile, River Swale Organic Vegetables, which launched a delivery service in Middlesbrough earlier this year, reports a growing band of ethical consumers on Teesside.
The company, based at Newby Wiske, grows 80% of its own produce to cut down on food miles. Washing and packaging is kept to a minimum and free home delivery is offered, keeping prices competitive.
The initiative earned the farm-based firm an environment award at the North East Business Awards.
MD Peter Richardson said: “As a small business we can have as good a claim as any in saying we are doing all we can to reduce our carbon footprint.”
