THE unlikely duo of loo roll and gardening were brought together in a presentation. An award-winning garden has been installed in the grounds of SCA’s Prudhoe Mill for workers and visitors.
The Quilted Velvet Garden, created by landscape architects Urbanwear, scooped silver in the Small Gardens section of the Royal Chelsea Flower Show earlier this year.
The award, inspired by one of the company’s popular brands of toilet tissue, was presented to SCA by the Mayor of Prudhoe, Jennifer McGee.
The garden was created using a plants and flowers which incorporate shades of pink and lilac, the official colours of Quilted Velvet tissue. Sustainable timber and environment- ally-friendly materials were used.
Mrs McGee, also chair of the Prudhoe in Bloom Society, was delighted to formally open the garden, alongside staff and members of the SCA Community Consultation Forum.
She said: “Gardening is a passion of mine and I never tire of seeing the care, attention and creativity in entries we receive through Prudhoe in Bloom every year.
“However, it was a real honour to be asked to officially open the Quilted Velvet Garden for SCA. It’s an inspired space with a beautiful selection of colours achieved through careful planting.”
Tony Richards, factory and site manager at SCA Prudhoe Mill, added: “We wanted to install the garden at Prudhoe because it is the home of Quilted Velvet and it was very important to us that the Velvet production team and their colleagues were able to enjoy it.”
The garden is located in a south-facing courtyard at the centre of the site. It has a curved seating area with an arching planter.
Last year staff at SCA helped our Go Green campaign by turning our waste office paper into toilet rolls.
The paper was taken away for shredding before being taken to the Prudhoe Mill, where it was dissolved in water and pulped.
The pulp was made into giant paper rolls, which were converted into smaller rolls before being packed and distributed to customers.
