Consultants get bogged down in the beauty of nature

AGROUP of volunteers from Accenture, the Jesmond-based management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, recently left consulting behind for the day and spent a day of satisfying hard work with Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

With environmental challenges becoming increasingly important at a local level, staff at Accenture were keen to offer support to the Trust in its work to protect and preserve Northumberland’s stunning natural habitat. The team headed northwards and worked in the stunning surroundings of the peat bogs at Holburn Moss. The work involved building dams, using recycled materials, to restore the peat and its natural mosses, many of which have dried out and been overrun by heather.

The impact of the group’s work will be seen within weeks, which makes it all the more rewarding, and the nature of the tasks undertaken also made for a genuinely team-building experience, which left them very keen to forge an ongoing work relationship with the Trust.

Derek Hornsby, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Estates Volunteer Development Officer said: “It was great working with the team from Accenture for the day. The feedback I received from them was really encouraging. Every person felt that the restoration of the stunning environment was a really worthwhile task and it was a bonus that the nature of the work made for a genuinely team-building experience. I look forward to working with them again in the future.”
