Have fun volunteering to get involved in outdoors
Nov 18 2008 by Francesca Craggs, The Journal
DURHAM County Council’s Countryside Group offers many opportunities to get involved, choose whichever suits you. You could join the Durham Voluntary Countryside Ranger Service (DVCRS) and:
Steward guided walks
Do practical tasks at a work party
Look after footpaths in your area
Assist us at countryside events
Patrol our sites
Become a tree warden.
You can help us on a more informal basis by picking litter, reporting problems or assisting the Rangers on a one-to-one basis.
Durham County Council employees can join the employee volunteering scheme.
So why not join us and make your valuable contribution to improving the Durham countryside? You will learn new skills, make new friends and get fit. We can’t do it without your help.
For further information contact Deborah Ferguson, volunteer co-ordinator, on (0191) 383-5704, email rangers@durham.gov.uk or go to www.durham.gov.uk/countryside
Don’t hide from the cold
The nights are drawing in and the weather is turning colder but that’s no reason to hide away indoors. With the changing of the seasons, the countryside looks and feels completely different. So pull on your walking boots, pack a waterproof and come walking with us.
The new Country Durham: guided walks, events and news brochure is now available.
