Wildlife charity puts out SOS for volunteers

NORTHUMBERLAND Wildlife Trust is calling for members of the public with a little spare time on their hands and fond memories of TV’s Blue Peter and sticky back plastic to get in touch.
The wildlife charity has put out an SOS for volunteers to help with the growing number of school and community sessions which it holds in the Northumberland and Tyneside area.
The tasks are wide and varied, and range from helping children with arts and craft activities in schools to assisting with the running of community events and working with youth groups on environmental projects such as bulb and tree planting.
No experience is necessary, but a willingness to work with children and young people is essential. Regular People and Wildlife volunteers will receive training which will enable them to fine tune their educational and environmental knowledge. All volunteers will be subject to a CRB police check.
Jason Gaskell, Head of People and Wildlife said: “I have heard so many of our volunteers say that being around young people keeps them feeling youthful. The People and Wildlife team is a great group of people and to be a volunteer with them is a wonderful opportunity for anybody with a few hours on their hands who wants to get out of the house and enjoy themselves.”
