Welfare to work provider, A4e, teams up with remploy

The A4e team

AN innovative partnership between national Welfare to Work provider, A4e and Remploy, the UK's leading provider of specialist employment services for people with disabilities and health conditions, is helping Gateshead residents with learning disabilities gain valuable work experience.

A group of 11 trainees are engaged on a one-day-a-week, three-month work trial at Remploy’s Gateshead factory. A4e’s placement officer Alison Pittendreigh said: “This is invaluable experience for a group of people who face complex barriers to work.

The support provided by Remploy has been brilliant.”

A4e works with many employers in the North East and nationally to develop opportunities for people who have significant and varied barriers to employment, including being long-term unemployed and having a disability; this support includes the provision of paid and voluntary employment opportunities. Placements are an important tool in the progression of learners to a position where they are ready for full time employment.

The placement allows them to learn about the world of work.

Remploy is the country’s largest specialist employer of disabled people operating 10 businesses at 54 locations across the UK, employing 3,000 disabled people. David Gooding, manager of Remploy’s Gateshead factory said: “We are delighted to be offering this facility for trainees through our relationship with A4E. It fits with Remploy’s aim of finding jobs for people with disabilities and other health issues.”

A4e is constantly looking for more organisations like Remploy who can provide placement opportunities for their learners.

Placements can last up to 11 weeks at no cost to the placement provider, all A4e asks in return is that should a full paid position be available or become available in the duration of the placement that the learner is given due consideration for it.

:: In the current economic environment, placements provide a very low risk and cost effective method of recruitment; for more information on A4e’s placement scheme, please contact Alison on 0790 0575 304 or email at Alison.Pittendreigh@a4e.co.uk
