Alnwick Infirmary refurbishment

Modern matron Julie Button shows Karen Oxley how to use the pager system

THE Trust is continually investing in improving the community hospitals and Julie Button, modern matron for Alnwick and Rothbury, has been overseeing refurbishment projects to improve the environment for patients.

Julie said: “Over the past year we've introduced a number of improvements for patients at Alnwick. Our outpatients department is very busy so we've increased the size of the waiting room and there are a number of other works planned to upgrade this facility. Once they are completed, we plan to redecorate to help make the department much more modern. We're also introducing a pager system - so patients can go and have a cup of tea or a walk nearby before their appointment and we'll page them when it's time. This will give patients much more freedom without the worry of missing their appointment.”

The physiotherapy department has been refurbished in the last year. Work is under way to improve each patient's privacy and dignity by increasing the availability of same-sex accommodation and upgrading bathroom facilities on both wards at Alnwick. Each will have wet room shower facilities. The minor injuries unit will also soon be undergoing redecoration.
