THE Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has launched its prestigious annual awards to celebrate excellence within the region.
The Robert Stephenson Awards 2010 will highlight outstanding examples of design and construction undertaken either in the North East, or by those based within the region.
Prizes in two categories, for projects valued greater than £4m and those valued at less than £4m, will be awarded at the ICE North East Dinner, a special evening of celebration on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Newcastle Marriott Gosforth Hotel.
Outstanding projects which are considered to be particularly environmentally sustainable, or help to contribute to the preservation of the region's heritage, or where innovation features strongly, may be given additional or special awards.
Entry submissions must be received by January 21, 2010. However, notification of intent to submit an entry must be received by December 18, 2009.
Greg Lutton, regional chairman of ICE North East, said: "Presented by the ICE President at the ICE North East Dinner, the Robert Stephenson Awards form part of the largest civil engineering event in the North East calendar.
"These awards are a wonderful way to celebrate all that is good about civil engineering and particularly all those people at all levels who do such a wonderful job in our industry here in the North East. Civil engineers provide the vital infrastructure that makes this region tick, and which is all too often taken for granted. It is important that the good work they do is recognised, and I would urge everyone in the sector to find a project to shout about, so that we can make the 2010 awards bigger and better than ever.”
