Graduate gets her teeth into new role

DENTAL hygiene therapist Amanda Shannon has just joined the growing team at The Cosmetic Dental Clinic in Newcastle.

The 23-year-old graduated from Newcastle’s Dental College, where she has spent three years studying all aspects of dental hygiene.

Originally from Belfast, Amanda was keen to settle in Newcastle and speculatively applied to The Cosmetic Dental Clinic looking for a prospective opportunity.

Amanda will support Dr Cannell and Dr Stafford by carrying out routine procedures such as scale and polishes, as well as cosmetic treatments such as Zoom 2 Advanced Power tooth whitening, which is proving to be one of the clinic’s most popular treatments.

She said: “I am delighted to be joining the team at The Cosmetic Dental Clinic as it is such a unique practice and will provide me with a great opportunity to put my skills to good use. It was the special focus on cosmetic dentistry that attracted me to the role and I hope to learn new skills.”

Dr Darren Cannell, co-founder of The Cosmetic Dental Clinic, added: “We are delighted that Amanda has joined our team as she will play a vital role in supporting the business as it continues to expand and evolve. Her skills will be of great use to us, as we have experienced a period of sustained growth and require a skilled therapist to help us to provide the highest standards of care to our patients.”

Initially Amanda will be operating from the clinic two days each week but will increase to permanent full time hours as demand increases.

Other significant appointments this year included periodontal specialist Dr. Geoffrey Sharpe, one of the UK’s leading periodontal practitioners and two new dental nurses.
