Peter’s keen to get in the swing of things with top role

PETER Smith has been appointed golf and leisure manager for Matfen Hall.

In this newly created role he will be responsible for developing the leisure and golf markets, promoting the 27-hole golf course, its golf academy and driving range, and the hotel’s extensive leisure facilities including the Go Ape tree top obstacle course.

Peter, 29, has worked at Matfen Hall’s Leisure Club since it opened in 2004. A good example of hard work paying off, he started as a leisure club receptionist and became leisure club manager four years later. Under his leadership, the club has gone from strength to strength and he has coached several European and world champion-level athletes who use its training facilities.

Peter said: “If someone had asked me what I would like to do when I was older this would have been the perfect choice. This is one of the foremost jobs in sport and leisure in the region and a great opportunity.”

Peter holds a degree in physiology and a string of professional qualifications in personal training and health and safety.

He was born and brought up in Morpeth and is a keen sportsman. He played football for Morpeth Town and ran in the English Schools Cross Country Team and later the Morpeth Harriers.

Peter will be on hand at open days on April 25 (2pm- 6pm) and April 28 (4pm-8pm).
