Conference to focus on region’s infrastructure

THE region’s leading business membership organisation and voice of business in the North East has announced it is holding a conference to discuss the issues affecting infrastructure in the region.

The North East Chamber of Commerce is hosting an event entitled, “North East Infrastructure: Are we fit for the future?” which will focus on issues affecting transport, energy, digital and resources infrastructure.

The event, which takes place at Newcastle Racecourse on November 16, is being supported by NECC Partner Members BT, Eversheds, Impetus Waste Management and Newcastle International Airport.

In addition to exploring the issues affecting transport, energy, digital and resources infrastructure the conference will feature industry experts with suggestions on how the North East can, and should, remain competitive. The event will also welcome speakers from both of the region’s local enterprise partnerships.

NECC policy adviser Mark Stephenson said: “The aim of this infrastructure conference is to highlight and address the issues affecting inward investment for the region, whilst providing NECC members with a welcome opportunity to network with some of the North East’s biggest investors.

“The North East boasts an embarrassment of riches in terms of innovation, skills, man-made and natural resources that combine to give us a strong and unique offer to global markets. These resources are enviable, yet regulatory uncertainty and mis-firing can all too often frighten would-be investors from choosing the North East.

“It is therefore vitally important that we discuss and address these issues in order to make the North East an attractive location for investors, ensuring that we can continue on the road to sustainable economic growth.”

The NECC Infrastructure Conference takes place at Newcastle Racecourse, High Gosforth Park, Newcastle, on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
