SOUTH Tyneside has seen the kick starting of jobs and regeneration at Harton Quay with the completion of the 43,000 square feet flagship business centre.
One Harton Quay will be the regional home of BT who, through a 10-year strategic partnership with South Tyneside Council, will create new jobs and investment in services. BT recently announced the creation of 280 BT Retail jobs to be based at the centre.
The council has worked hard to help fill the new jobs by hosting jobs fairs and funding training for residents. Out of the BT Retail posts offered so far, 80% of candidates have been from South Tyneside.
The regeneration of Harton Quay will continue, with a clear focus on creating jobs. Other sites will be brought forward for a variety of uses and the site will feature a fantastic new park, so residents and workers can enjoy the glorious views of the riverside.
The council will be looking to build strong links between Harton Quay and the nearby traditional market square and town centre. Wouldhave House, on the edge of the market square and across the road from Harton Quay will be demolished. A striking new development will take its place. This will create a natural route from the culture hub of the Customs House, through the commercial and cultural lynch-pin of Harton Quay on to retail and transport connections in the town centre.
