Entrepreneurial spirit continues in Northumberland
Nov 15 2010 by Business & Enterprise North East

OVER the past few years a real entrepreneurial spirit, a strong, successful business community and a number of regeneration initiatives have firmly established Northumberland as an excellent environment for business.
Here, Alastair MacColl, Chief Executive at Business & Enterprise North East - the leading enterprise specialist which delivers the Business Link contract in the North East - talks about why it’s great to do business in Northumberland and how business improvement services are key to sustainable growth.
“There is a great deal of talent and potential in Northumberland – and many outstanding businesses. The county boasts an exceptional tourism industry, a leading renewable sector, vigorous rural communities and excellence in ICT and the creative markets. And that’s just the start.
“Each year, through our Business Link service, we work with thousands of businesses based in Northumberland and they continue to demonstrate innovation, resilience, passion and talent – all contributing towards the overall economic growth within the region.
“As the Government focuses on private sector growth, it is more vital than ever that businesses continue to utilise the support on offer to realise these ambitions.
“At Business Link we continue to work across Northumberland – ensuring businesses have all the support they need to start, succeed and grow. We have a dedicated team of highly skilled and experienced advisers who understand the diverse needs and issues that businesses are facing. They have a wealth of local knowledge and business acumen and work on a mobile basis to ensure they can visit businesses at their convenience.
“Each year we help businesses increase profitability and sales; identify new markets; gain greater control over finances and reduce costs; improve performance; identify new products and services; diversify or start high-growth businesses; and optimise management and staff performance.”
Recently, Business Link supported Morpeth-based Telemetry-online, which provides flexible and eco-friendly heating solutions.
Peter Chambers brought a new energy management system to market after realising the benefits of telemetry – a remote monitoring system used to control unmanned plants and equipment in the gas, water, electricity and process industries - to small businesses and public buildings.
Peter commented: “As a result of the relationship with Business Link, the product has been completely developed, branded, marketed and produced within the north east and we are now concentrating on marketing the product more widely.”
