THE region’s primary source of business support, Business Link, is continuing to champion business excellence in the area as associate sponsor of the North East Business Awards.

Business Link, a long standing supporter of the awards is focused on transforming the region’s economy by providing free, independent information and advice to established and start-up businesses in the North East.

Chief executive Alastair MacColl said: “I’m a firm believer that success breeds success – a thriving business community is encouraging to would-be entrepreneurs.

Since last year, Business Link in the North East, has provided advice and guidance to approximately 30,000 new and established businesses across the North East, contributing to an 11% increase in the region’s business start-up rate.

Business Link offers a range of business support including help with topics such as sourcing funding, employing people and building the skills of existing staff, meeting legal responsibilities and writing a business plan.

To further tailor its services towards improving the region’s economy, Business Link also offers a range of expert advisors who focus on the key growth sectors set out in One NorthEast’s Regional Economic Strategy. These are: automotive; chemicals and pharmaceuticals; commercial creative; defence and marine; energy, food and drink; health and social care; knowledge intensive business services and tourism and hospitality.
