Unsung heroes finally honoured

THERE is a new category in this year's nebusiness awards which recognises the contribution of one of the biggest sectors in the region.
In recent years the public sector has seen marked employment growth as jobs in the private sector have declined.
To recognise this, the Public Sector Organisation of the Year has been included for the first time and digital marketing and recruitment company Pearsons is pleased to be the sponsor.
This award recognises outstanding performance by a public sector, not-for-profit or charitable organisation and the criteria for the award embrace areas of innovation, culture and high performance.
Pearsons managing director Lilian Hughes said: “We are delighted to be the headline sponsor for both the sub-regional and the regional awards for the public sector.
“We have a longstanding relationship with the public sector in the North East and by sponsoring this category we can help recognise and profile the achievements made by many of our clients.
“We’ve worked extremely closely with public sector for over 20 years and have seen a great deal of excellent work and innovation and are delighted that their work is being recognised by the North East Business Awards.” Pearsons will be sponsoring the awards in association with www.sector1.net, which is the jobs website owned by Pearsons.
Sector1.net was launched originally in 2000 and since its relaunch last September, the site is now much broader and provides job seekers in the North East with thousands of vacancies from public and private sector organisations.
As sponsor of the Public Sector Award, Pearsons and sector1.net will be involved in pulling together panels of judges to review the entries, collate the shortlist and choose the final winners.
Pearsons, established in 1986 by Simon Pearson, employs 62 people and has offices in Middlesbrough, Leeds and Newcastle.
There is just a month to go until the deadline for entries for the most prestigious business awards in the North East.
Despite the challenging economic climate, firms across the region have been putting themselves forward for one of the 12 categories in this year’s nebusiness awards.
But time is now running out for companies who want to be considered for the type of accolade which could make a real difference to a business in such testing times.
The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Friday, January 9.
Organised by The Journal and the Evening Gazette, in association with Business Link, the awards are recognised as being the biggest of their kind in the UK.
For the ninth year, the awards will be run on a sub-regional format with winners in each category for the Tees Valley, Durham and Wearside, and Tyneside and Northumberland.
The winners in each category will go forward to the regional final at Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield on April 30.
