THERE is still time to join the growing list of entrants for the region’s biggest and best business awards which celebrate the strength and breadth of commercial talent in the North East.
Organised by The Journal and the Evening Gazette in association with Business Link in the North East, the awards are already recognised as the best in the country.
And they promise to be even better with the introduction of new categories to reflect the changing nature of the region’s economy.
We will champion the most promising new businesses with a Newcomer of the Year Award. We will celebrate corporate achievements in helping communities and the environment with the Corporate Responsibility and Environment Award.
We will recognise the efforts of companies to look after and reward their staff with the Employer of the Year Award and we will reflect professional achievements outside the private sector with the Public Sector Organisation of the Year Award.
The awards ceremonies have also been given an makeover with all heats and the final hosted by renowned humorist, writer and business guru Guy Browning.
The competition will have heats to find the foremost businesses from the three sub-regions of the North East. The judges are looking for entries from right across the region, from Tees Valley to the Borders, with competitions running for Tyneside and Northumberland, Durham and Wearside and Tees Valley before the regional grand final that will reveal the best of the best.
Companies which have been successful in past years have found that the awards inspire pride in their workforce, admiration from the regional business community, and raise their profile and reputation across the country.
The award categories means that there is something for everyone. No matter how small or large your company, no matter what sector you operate in; if you’ve achieved something you’re proud of, there will be a category you can enter with the best of the best going through to compete for the prestigious title of North East Company of the Year.
The regional final takes place on April 30, 2009, at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield, County Durham.
Entry is simple and via our website at www.nebusinessawards.co.uk The deadline for entries is January 9 and companies can enter up to three separate award categories.

Organised by The Journal and Evening Gazette, the awards aim to recognise achievement, encourage excellence and celebrate success.
Organisations of all sizes and types can enter the event which will showcase the strength and diversity of enterprise in the North East.
It is more important than ever that our region shouts about its outstanding successes and shows the world that the North East really means business. We have the strength to thrive and grow, despite the challenging economic conditions.
Business Link chief executive Alastair MacColl said: “There has never been a more important time to celebrate success in our region.
“The awards showcase the outstanding talent, diversity and strength of enterprise in North East England.
“I would like to urge as many companies as possible to get involved in this fantastic event."
