Our contenders show confidence amid crisis

THERE are only five days left to enter the biggest and best business awards in the North East. Companies have been keen to enter the nebusiness awards, run by The Journal and Evening Gazette with Business Link in the North East.

Winners will get a lot more than just a trophy if they are successful in one of the growing number of categories, according to the North East Company of the Year 2007.

Engineering group Darchem, of Stillington, County Durham, has had spectacular successes since its win. The company, which has 630 staff at its headquarters and 120 at its Gloucester plant, has won a series of multi-million-pound contracts to make parts for airliners and aircraft carriers and these deals fuel its plan to increase revenues from £60m to £100m by 2013.

Marketing director John Padbury said: “It is a very prestigious award which we are extremely proud of winning because it is recognised both regionally and across the UK.

“It raises the profile and advertises us as a good company to our peers and our suppliers and it is great for attracting quality staff, ranging from apprentices to those at the highest level.

“It is an excellent way to give our staff a sense of pride and also helps us to win customers because they can see we are a leader in the region.

“In these times of global financial crisis, the companies that enter and win these awards show they are confident and successful. I would urge companies to take part.”

CELEBRATE SUCCESS

Business Link champions business excellence as associate sponsor of the nebusiness awards for the second year in succession.

The awards are designed to recognise achievement, encourage excellence and celebrate success.

Organisations of all sizes and types can enter the event, which will showcase the strength and diversity of enterprise in the North East. Being in the awards is a great way to promote a company and communicate its achievements to customers and partners and boost morale by reminding teams of the contribution they have made all year.

It is more important than ever that our region shouts about its outstanding successes and shows the world the North East really means business. We have the strength to thrive and grow, despite challenging economic conditions. Business Link is focused on transforming the region’s economy by providing free, independent advice to new and established businesses as well as to those who want to start a venture.

This year Business Link will help more than 32,000 companies and people starting businesses. Go to www.businesslink.gov.uk/northeast for more information or call 0845 600-9006 to speak to a Business Link broker.

I would like to urge as many companies as possible to get involved in this fantastic event.”
