A SUNDERLAND hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment in a bid to turn it into one of the city's largest events venues.
Work is under way on a £500,000 upgrade of The Pullman Lodge at Seaburn, which will include the creation of a function room which will cater for up to 400 guests.
The transformation of the hotel, which belongs to the Wylam Leisure group, will also see the installation of a second floor bar with sea views.
The latest move follows the creation of a fish and chip restaurant called Lowry’s which is opening at the hotel, named after the famous painter who spent much of his time in the city.
Tony Griffiths of Wylam Leisure said: "Quite apart from being in a great location, there isn't really anywhere else in Sunderland which can cater for up to 400 people on round tables."
