DD acts in £1.5bn deal

Newcastle-based Dickinson Dees acted for the London Borough of Newham on the £1.5bn Silvertown Quays project.

The scheme, to be developed by Silvertown Quays Limited, forms part of the Thames Gateway initiative and will provide 5,000 new homes, restaurants, bars, offices, shops and leisure facilities in the Royal Victoria Docks area of east London.

The project will also include the opening of a conservation-led aquarium, Biota!, operated by a subsidiary of the London Zoological Society.

Led by Jocelyn Denton, Dickinson Dees' involvement included the negotiation and completion of a major planning agreement, securing developer commitments worth £25m towards infrastructure and community benefits, as well as affordable housing.

Ashurst acted for the developer, Stephenson Harwood for the London Development Agency and McGrigors for Bank of Scotland.
