Four students were accepted on to the scheme at Deloitte Newcastle following applications from 2,200 across the country.

The summer vacation scheme is a seven-week programme that offers students work experience in audit, tax, corporate finance or consulting service lines in the summer before their last year at university.

Liz Durkin 20, is one of those who has secured a placement on the programme.

Liz is originally from Newcastle and is currently studying a degree in natural sciences at Cambridge University. She will be working at Deloitte’s office in Newcastle.

Fellow summer intern Lizzie Ryan, 20, is currently a student at Newcastle University studying Economics. She is hoping to pursue a career in professional services.

Mo Malhotra, 20, is currently a student at the University of Durham reading economics.

Daniel Barrett 20, is studying financial mathematics at Newcastle University. After university, Dan would like join Deloitte as a graduate in corporate finance.

The programme exposes participants to client work, and encourages them to contribute solutions to company problems.

Deloitte Newcastle office senior partner Paul Williamson said: “The scheme has been designed to help Deloitte secure top talent and it enables us to target these people at an earlier stage.

“This is a great opportunity for students to learn valuable business skills in a corporate environment and earn some money to use in their final year at university.

“Around 90% of those taking part will be offered graduate positions at the end of their placements.”
