Pair achieve their pub ambition

LAW firm Gordon Brown Associates has helped two women to achieve their ambition of buying a pub.

Christine Colvin and Martin Donnelly of Gordon Brown Associates

Janine and Christine Colvin have purchased the Earl Derby pub in Stanley Village, near Crook, County Durham, with the help of commercial property lawyer Martin Donnelly.

Having worked for 11 years at a variety of jobs, including managing the bar in a Redcar workingmen’s club, Janine wanted to try running her own pub. Christine, who has previously worked in elderly care, agreed to work with her in the venture.

They approached licensed premises specialists, Christie & Co about the Earl Derby, who in turn referred them to Gordon Brown Associates, as experts in the legal aspects of buying commercial property.

Finance consultant John Feechan of Christie Finance also provided the lending facility which helped Janine and Christine buy the pub.

Mr Donnelly said: “There is a real satisfaction to be gained from helping people to further their business opportunities, particularly when it is a first venture, such as this one.

“The fact agents such as Christie & Co are referring business deals to Gordon Brown Associates is a real indication the firm’s reputation as a leading commercial property law firm is growing across the North-East.”
