Future success of Il Forno is safeguarded

THE future success of an award-winning local restaurant has been safeguarded following a buy-out by its head chef.

Italian restaurant Il Forno in Tynemouth has been bought by Keith Heavisides, for an undisclosed sum.

Located in the Victorian Grade II- listed Tynemouth Metro Station, the restaurant originally opened in 2000 under the name Garibaldi. It changed its name to Il Forno four years ago and has been successfully trading during this time as a partnership between Mr Heavisides and his business partner, Rocco Laamaim.

Mr Laamaim, who has 30 years extensive experience in the restaurant trade in London and the North East, initially established the Tynemouth restaurant. His decision to sell his share of the business created the opportunity for the buyout.

Newcastle solicitors Hay & Kilner acted for Mr Heavisides and Sintons advised Mr Laamaim. Funding was provided by Lloyds TSB.

Amanda Maskery from Sintons added: "We have acted for Rocco for many years and having worked with him in the development of the business were delighted to advise him on this transaction. We wish him every luck for the future and are sure Il Forno will go from strength to strength."

Mark Adams from Hay & Kilner commented: "It was a logical step for Keith to purchase Rocco’s share in the partnership following his announcement to sell his share of the business. Keith was ideally placed having been involved in the business for the last seven years."

Keith Heavisides said: "I wanted to make sure Il Forno continued to trade successfully. The local residents of Tynemouth and those who travel here by Metro from further afield have always appreciated the atmosphere and quality of the food we provide. I wish Rocco all the best for the future."
