COMPANY analysts based in the North East have been recognised as the best in the country picking up a top Stock Market award.
The research team of Brewin Dolphin Investment Banking (BDIB), which is based in Newcastle, won the Best AIM Research Award at an annual AIM award ceremony.
BDIB’s research team’s corporate clients include blue-chip North East companies such as Greggs, Sage, Eaga, Hargreaves and Grainger and it has recently assisted in the flotation on AIM by Hargreaves, of County Durham and Vertu Motors, of Newcastle.
Michael Parkinson, head of research at BDIB said: “This is a fantastic accolade for BDIB, the only Newcastle-based broker in the UK.
“We are delighted to receive this significant award which is testament to the strength and depth of our equity research team.
“Our experienced and highly respected team of 13 analysts follow over 140 companies providing in-depth quality research across six sectors – consumer, healthcare, industrials, oil and gas, mining, support services and technology.
“We continue to grow and expand the division and look forward to further successes going forward.”
The annual Alternative Investment Market (AIM) awards dinner in London was presented by BBC Newsnight’ Emily Maitlis, and is sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers in association with The London Stock Exchange.
A spokesman for the organisers said: “The Best Aim Research Award celebrates individuals and organisations who have made a significant contribution to increasing the profile of AIM, creating interest in a market of over 500 diverse small and medium sized companies through detailed investment commentary.
“Brewin Dolphin were shortlisted for this award last year, and the panel noted that their research product had continued to improve over the past 12 months. As always, this award provoked some intense debate, but eventually the voting panel reached their decision of Brewin Dolphin.”
BDIB is one of the main players in the mid-market and small company arena and was recognised as AIM Broker of the Year in the 2007 AIM Investment Management Awards.
Graeme Summers, head of BDIB in Newcastle, said: “We are naturally delighted to have picked up another high-profile AIM Award.
“As one of the first approved Nominated Advisers when AIM launched, we have a long-standing commitment to our clients, both corporate and institutional, who operate in this market. Looking forward, we belive there are exciting opportunities ahead for our business and we are well-placed to continue to provide good, honest advise to our clients.”
