High-calibre speakers at accountants conference

A CONFERENCE for chartered accountants across the North of England, offering 15 hours of content from around 10 lecturers takes place later this month.
Organised by the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants it takes place at Redworth Hall Hotel, near Darlington, on February 26, 27 and 28
Subjects to be covered include:
Tax – an update from Rebecca Benneyworth on all the latest issues in VAT, PAYE and Corporate taxes, including the return of the popular Small Business Hot Topics.
Accounts and audit – expert Bill Telford will talk about fraud, going concern, current issues for auditors and the Companies Act 2006.
Consolidated accounts – with the removal of the exemption for medium-sized groups, Tracey Wilson will offer an update and refresher.
Self employment – Chris Leslie will tell us about status enquiries and the CIS scheme.
Insolvency – Simon Lundy will discuss pre-pack liquidations and corporate recovery.
Excel surgery – Glen Feechan will be on hand to go through the finer points of using Excel and will explain ODBC links and pivot tables. This will be a workshop session with an opportunity for one-to-one instruction.
Employment law – Kareena Prescott-Carr from ELAS will present aspects of Employment Law and Health & Safety.
Patents and trademarks – Richard Bassett will discuss important points for accountants.
