Dickinson Dees praised by diocese for service

LAW firm Dickinson Dees has been praised for the “"irst-class, informed and comprehensive service" it provided for York Diocesan Board of Education.

Following the Government’s announcement on academies earlier this year, a number of schools in the North East and Yorkshire have sought legal advice from the education practice at Dickinson Dees.

The team, which was shortlisted as Legal Adviser of the Year at the Education Investor Awards, was quick to react to the needs of schools and local authorities, by hosting informative seminars which have resulted in a new work for the firm.

The firm, which has an office in York, was appointed by the York Diocesan Board of Education to advise on the establishment of the Archbishop Sentamu Academy in Hull and has since provided on-going specialist legal advice for the Board.

Ann Lees, diocesan director of education for the Board, said: “Our relationship with Dickinson Dees has been excellent, since we started working together in 2007. The education team is knowledgeable, hardworking and has tremendous strength in depth. Crucially, in its leader Rowan Ferguson, the team also has a superb key point of contact.”

In addition, one of the very early schools to apply for academy status, high performing Whitburn Church of England School, has recently appointed Dickinson Dees.

Based near Sunderland, this voluntary aided school will require expert legal advice to assist them in their transition to academy status, a move welcomed by Rowan Ferguson, head of education at Dickinson Dees.
