LONDON-BASED dealmaking lawyer Tim Sewart is relocating to the region to take on a new role as chief executive of a fast-growing North East health business.

The Newcastle-based Clarity Informatics Group says the move allows its founder, Professor Ian Purves, to move into a new strategic development role.

A former research spin-off from Newcastle University, Clarity employs a team of 50 technical authors and software developers to provide the latest research and evidence-based information on drugs, medical conditions and treatments to health professionals.

New CEO-elect Tim Sewart, 32, is a partner and head of technology at healthcare law firm Beachcroft, which has an office in Newcastle.

He will maintain his position as an active partner at the law firm, while working alongside the Clarity board before taking up the reins as CEO later this year. A former graduate of Newcastle University, Tim is moving from London and making his home in the North East in order to maintain the dual role.

Clarity’s Professor Ian Purves said: “Tim has worked with us since 2008. His skill in negotiating complex contracts will give us real competitive advantage.

“Tim is also highly experienced in brokering international deals, which will support us in our aim to expand outside the UK.”

Sewart said: “It’s a relatively unusual switch from practising as a lawyer to managing a business. It’s an outstanding opportunity and I am looking forward to the challenge.”

Simon Hodson, senior partner at Beachcroft added: “We are right behind this appointment, which will benefit both our organisations, and we have every confidence in its success.”
