THE creative industries team at law firm Ward Hadaway has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The firm’s creative industries team is in the running for the Excellence in Innovation Awards at The Law Society Excellence Awards 2011.

Ward Hadaway is one of only six firms across the UK to be shortlisted for the prestigious award.

The firm, which has offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester, won the nomination for the pioneering work of its creative industries team.

Headed by partner Laura Harper, the team is believed to be the first of its kind to be established by a Top 100 UK law firm.

The team acts for a broad range of creative businesses from multi-national technology companies, major fashion brands, advertising and design agencies, film, music, digital and gaming companies, through to individual designers, musicians and artists.

Lawyers in the team have previously worked in the creative industries in activities as varied as publishing, music management and performing. They use that unique insight, combined with years of specialist legal knowledge, to offer accessible, high-quality advice to clients across the creative sector.

Laura Harper, partner and head of creative industries at Ward Hadaway, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for such an important and prestigious award.

“We set up the creative industries team because we thought that an important need was not being met.

“We wanted to provide something that was different, both in terms of the service we gave our clients and the way in which we delivered that service, and I believe we have achieved that.

“Being shortlisted for this award demonstrates not only that we are successfully providing something which is innovative and valued by clients, but also that the increasing importance of the creative industries sector to the wider economy is being recognised.”
