Nigel Perry

Chief Executive, Centre for Process Industries.

What did you want to be when you were young?
An engineer

How much was your first pay packet and what did you spend it on?
Honestly can't remember - it wasn't very much.

What's your dream job, other than your current one?
Running a company in Asia or failing that, ski-instructing in Austria.

What's the best piece of business advice you have received?
Always remember that it is your people that deliver for you - look after them and nurture them.

And the worst?
Just do it and don't worry about the consequences!

What is your philosophy when it comes to business?
Great people can make a mediocre idea work; mediocre people can wreck a great idea.

What are your hobbies?
Beekeeping, skiing, a Triumph Stag and finding time not to work.

What's your top business or financial tip?
Look after your people: keep them posted, involve them, ask them how to get there, let them get on with getting there, and help when asked - your job is to define where to go.

Does anything scare you and if so what?
Not doing the things I should be doing and not realising it.

What would you choose as your epitaph?
People matter
