Karen Wilkinson-Bell
Regional Director, Business in the Community
What did you want to be when you were young?
A doctor - but as I faint at the sight of blood, I decided it might be a tad more sensible if I studied languages instead.
How much was your first pay packet and what did you spend it on?
£5 - I blew it all on a ridiculous pair of platform shoes.
What's your dream job, other than your current one?
Running an agriturismo in Umbria - or perhaps CEO of Oxfam.
What's the best piece of business advice you have received?
Give your good people plenty of headroom - and let them get on with it.
And the worst?
That you should never allow emotions to get in the way of business (which is nonsense, of course, if you want people to be passionate about what they do).
What is your philosophy when it comes to business?
It comes from a Hindu proverb which, roughly translated, says: "Give to the world the best you have, and the best will come back to you".
What are your hobbies?
Cycling, going to the gym and tidying up after my two daughters...
What's your top business or financial tip?
Invest in responsible companies - they're the ones likely to prosper over the long term
Does anything scare you and if so what?
What will happen to our children's future if we don't tackle climate change.
What would you choose as your epitaph?
She was an iconoclast with a sense of humour!
