TODAY we lift the lid on the final categories for this year’s Tees Valley Business Awards.
And four fantastic firms were worthy winners at last year’s event.
Internet and ICT, Innovation, Learning, Training and Skills and Technology awards are categories all going under the spotlight today.
Scooping the Innovation title at the Tees Valley event was Middlesbrough-based Citrox.
The company then went on to be named the best in the region, taking the title at the North-east final.
Set up by Ian Ripley, a former ICI development chemist, the company has developed a range of products derived from citrus fruit extract, used in a wide variety of applications including food preparation, medical disinfection, crop protection and animal feed.
It has made advances against hospital superbug MRSA and avian flu.
The judges highlighted Citrox’s development of environmentally-friendly products which were also financially successful.
Skills and training are vital to the region’s economic development.
Lifelong learning and increased skilling of our workforce are vital if Tees Valley is to maximise its potential.
And taking the Learning Training and Skills title at last year’s event was Amec Group Industrial Division, Darlington
The company provides design, engineering, procurement, construction, shutdown and maintenance services.
It was awarded the title for its work in establishing a learning and development delivery team and three technical training centres.
It was another Darlington company that successfully secured the Internet and ICT category title in the Tees Valley Business Awards - Cooks and Kitchen.
Online orders at this specialist kitchenware and cookware retailer account for a major portion of its sales.
The company also uses the internet to assess competitors, source products, do banking and conduct e-ordering where it’s available.
And taking the Technology Award was Stokesley-based Sayu.
