THE clock is ticking for firms wanting to enter this year’s North East Business Awards.
Friday is the closing date for the awards, organised by the Evening Gazette and its sister paper The Journal.
Winners from three sub-regions - Tees Valley, Durham and Wearside, and Tyneside and Northumberland - will go forward to battle it out at the North-east final on May 1, 2008.
Companies across the region must submit their entries by Friday’s 5pm deadline - to have a chance of being named the cream of the North-east’s business community.
The 2006 awards saw an impressive line-up of winners in the Tees Valley.
They were:
Company of the Year: Brulines, Stockton.
Small Business: RS Industrial Services, Billingham.
Services: RS Industrial Services, Billingham.
Innovation: Citrox, Middlesbrough.
Technology: Sayu, Stokesley.
Internet and ICT: Cooks and Kitchen Kitchenware, Darlington.
Manufacturing: E&F Composites, Hartlepool.
Environment: 3M UK, Newton Aycliffe.
Corporate Social Responsibility: Huntsman Polyurethanes, Wilton.
Learning Training and Skills: Amec Group Industrial Division, Darlington.
Export: Cleveland Cascades, Stockton.
A trio of Tees Valley companies then went on to be regional champions as they scooped three of the honours at the North East Business Awards.
RS Industrial Services took the regional Services title; Citrox was named the North-east’s top firm in Innovation and 3M UK took the regional Environment Award.
The awards also recognise the creative industry sector - with the Best Cultural and Creative Business title, which is awarded at the North-east final.
This year, event organisers are hoping even more companies will enter the awards.
Gazette Media Company and ncj Media regional managing director Steve Brown, said: “No matter how small or large your company, no matter what sector you operate in, if you’ve achieved something you’re proud of then there will be a category you can enter.
“The North East Business Awards are inclusive and we want as many companies as possible from the region to get involved.”
He added: “It is the eighth year of the Business Awards in the regional format, with some 1,300 separate companies over that time having the confidence to put themselves forward.
“The search is on for 2007. We’re looking for more quality entries than ever. Please think about it for your company. Good luck!”
