Society supporttakes adouble

DARLINGTON Building Society has scooped two awards at the annual Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards held at the Law Society, London.

The society won the award for support of the arts and the award for its support of the community.

Darlington Building Society has now won the Arts Award for three years running, and has also won the Community Support Award three times in the past six years.

The awards are open to all mortgage lenders in the country.

The judges praised the society in particular for its support of Middlesbrough Theatre in its 50th anniversary year and the development of an affinity mortgage linked to the region’s four major hospices.

Peter Rowley, chief executive of Darlington Building Society, picked up the awards from newsreader Nicholas Owen and said: “To be recognised by your peers in this way and acknowledged by independent judges makes me extremely proud.

“Darlington Building Society is dedicated to looking after local interests and to receive such national recognition is tangible evidence of that dedication.

“It is pleasing to note that our support for our local communities is making a real difference, support that will certainly continue into the future.”
