Holiday park may be a haven for job seekers

A MAJOR recruitment roadshow to fill 100 vacancies at a Yorkshire holiday park comes to Middlesbrough next week.

The special recruitment day on Wednesday February 13 at Middlesbrough Job Centre in Corporation Road is for Haven’s flagship resort Primrose Valley near Filey.

The event is one of several recruitment days at Job Centres and open days that Haven are holding this month as the holiday parks prepare for the start of the 2008 season.

The number of vacancies is up on last year as Haven looks forward to a bumper season, despite the recent turmoil on the stock markets and warnings of economic gloom.

Haven director Tim Gibson said the company had just taken record bookings of £5m in a week - the company's best ever.

And he credited a growing trend towards environmentally-friendly breaks for the boost in bookings.

He said: “We’re seeing a move towards increased environmental awareness and recognition that we provide a first-class eco-friendly alternative to foreign holidays."

Vacancies are in retail, catering, bar work, waiting, vending machines and for a photographer.

A Haven spokesman said: “We are obviously looking after people on holiday so we are very much looking for bright, bubbly personalities and people who will make our guests feel welcome. Being a team player is also very important and part of our induction process is an assessment of how people react and interact in a team environment.”

Full training is given for all positions and Haven is a member of the Investor in People scheme.

Training for new team members starts within the first few days of joining the company. basic health and safety, data protection and job orientation training is supplemented by a programme specially developed by Haven Holidays to ensure everyone delivers the best possible customer experience. ‘Cutting Edge, Creating our Magical Experience’ is accredited by Welcome Host a training scheme recognised throughout the travel and tourism business.

Specialised training is available for individual areas of the business.
