A BUILDER which is to construct more than 400 homes in the North East this year has picked up a national award.
Miller Homes was Major Housebuilder of the Year at the 2008 Building Awards for the second year running.
Judges commended the firm for not imposing standard house plans, citing the fact that 70% of its homes are tailored to local needs. The awards, organised by Building magazine, also praised Miller for providing energy efficient homes ahead of legislation.
Miller Homes North East has 14 live sites. It is in talks with Newcastle City Council to build 138 in Fenham.
Regional MD Michael Poxton said: “In 2005, we became the first new home builder to publish our satisfaction scores and we continue to publish them twice a year, proving our commitment to customer care. The announcement of our repeat victory was overwhelming and I personally look forward to communicating this wonderful news to colleagues and customers throughout the region.”
The award, judged by industry professionals, was collected by North East sales director Debbie Dunthorne from impressionist Alistair McGowan at a dinner at London’s Grosvenor Hotel.
Financial performance was a factor in the win, with profits soaring from £34m in 1999 to £127.7m in 2007.
Chief executive Tim Hough said: “Since the start of the decade our progress has been exceptional.
“We have been driving towards a target which positions Miller as the best in the business. Winning the Major Housebuilder of Year award not once but twice proves that we have succeeded in this goal.”
