Bungalows get off the ground

A NEW phase has begun in the construction of a £1.3m regeneration scheme which is reinvigorating a North Tyneside community.

Social housing provider NomadE5 is working in partnership with North Tyneside Council to address the housing needs of Meadow Well, North Shields.

The start on site of the £1.3m Kingsbridge Close development, the latest scheme in the area’s ongoing regeneration, was marked with a ceremony attended by the elected mayor of North Tyneside John Harrison and NomadE5 chair Roy Ashton.

The site, formerly council housing, will be transformed into 13 two-bedroom bungalows. The new homes will be complete in the summer following a £660,000 grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Harry Alder, development and regeneration manager at Isos Housing, said: “Considering the current state of the housing market, we are extremely pleased to be adding further homes for rent to NomadE5’s portfolio.” Roy Ashton, chair of NomadE5 said, “In these times of economic doom and gloom and many housing developments grinding to a halt, it’s terrific for the North East that schemes such as Kingsbridge Close are forging ahead.”

John Harrison said: “Residents have told us that more affordable housing has to be a priority for the borough, that is why we are working closely with our partners, including NomadE5, to deliver homes that meet the needs of local communities.”
