Over 50% of its work is in the social housing sector and with the private sector struggling the company is turning its attentions to other areas of construction.
The company has established a specialist commercial department which will be run by Ken Symonds who has over 20 years’ experience within the building services industry. He will aim to expand its offerings to contractors in the sheltered housing, offices and education construction fields.
Andrew Craig, formerly a project director for Taylor Wimpey, has been appointed managing director of the Newcastle division which has an annual turnover of around £18m.
He said: “I knew John N Dunn through the extensive work they do in the housing market for major housebuilders, social housing providers and housing associations.
Their organisation, culture and reputation has always been very high and the quality of their workforce is excellent.
“I was looking for a new challenge and I was keen to be located in the North East area where my family are based, so when I saw this position to be managing director of the Newcastle Division I was extremely interested.
“The market is challenging, but now is the time to continue to get the basics right in a business and to continue to be competitive. I am confident that I can help John N Dunn build on its strengths, going forward.
