Managing director David Tilley said: “There has been a slight reduction in enquires as a result of how things stand in the economy, but we still have a heathy amount of work on our books.
“The decision to sell the business was not based on any predictions of a massive slump in construction work, but was more to do with the fact that the time was right for the business. However, we realise that we have benefited from the backing of a larger PLC and are now better able to service our clients.”
Over the last 26 years DW Tilley, which is now known as Mitie Tilley Roofing Ltd, has grown from a small North East business to a national outfit with offices in nine locations, including Southampton and West Lothian. The company’s impressive list of blue chip clients include BAE Systems, Stagecoach, Peugeot Citroen, MFI, Arriva and Heinz.
“We don’t expect any major growth this year, but expect to hit a turnover that is around our current level,” Mr Tilley said. “Most of our work is in industrial refurbishment, which is a sector that has taken a knock, but we are still confident of our position.”
